About the Band
Chained to the Bottom of the Ocean. A more evocative name has never been conceived.
With nearly a decade of activity behind them, we consider them one of the most devastating acts in today's sludge scene, bringing the genre back to its most nihilistic and existentialist roots.
Formed in Massachusetts, USA, in 2017, they have released three albums, alongside several splits and EPs, dragging us back to a genre born in the filth of punk and extreme metal. Their music pulls us into a suffocating, oppressive atmosphere where a strange sense of calm takes hold, as we surrender to the certainty that everything is bound to fall apart.
Because sometimes, all we want is to be cradled by utter despair, and Chained to the Bottom of the Ocean provide the perfect soundtrack to our failures.
About the Design
We initially thought about taking the "easier" route, staying on the surface and drawing inspiration from their name. But then we found ourselves completely captivated by their 2022 single, Suffering Is a Gift from God, such a vivid, merciless concept that it hit us like a truck.
We are all that hooded figure: defeated, brought to our knees, and left exposed to a world that looks down on us and passes judgment. All we have left is the bitter consolation of being "enlightened" by God.
